After being released from prison in 1970 Huey received an invitation from to visit the People's Republic of China. He left late September 1971, before Nixon visited. The Chinese population waved and shouted, saying, "We support the Black Panther Party". Newton stayed for 10 days, he had meetings with Premier of the People's Republic of China, Zhou Enlai. Newton described China as, "a free and liberated territory with a Socialist Government."

This art was the cover of the first time the book was published in 1973 after Huey was in prison. The book has been republished in 1999 with an introduction from Fredrika Newton, Newtons second and final wife.

Huey P. Newton wrote an autobiography about his life, from his poor life as a child, to his illiterate high school days, forming the Black Panther Party, and his solitary confinement. The book gives readers new perspectives and facts they never knew about Bobby Seale, The Black Panther Party, himself, and many other important aspects of Newton's life.

Death
Newton was killed early in the morning on August 22nd, 1989. He was only 47, he was shot dead on the "West Side" of Oakland. Huey was killed by Tyrone Robinson, who was part of the "Black Guerrilla Family" and also a narcotics dealer. The Black Guerrilla Family was an African-American group made up of prisoners. Robinson was sentenced to 37 years in prison.
