Huey P. Newton was born on February 17, 1942, in Monroe, LA. He was the youngest of 7 children. He had three sisters, and three brothers. His parents were Armelia Johnson and Walter Newton. At the age of three in 1945, the family moved to Oakland California. By the age of 14, Newton had already been charged for gun possession and vandalism crimes. He graduated from Oakland Technical High School, in 1959. After high school Newton attended Merritt College where he met Bobby Seale, Newton primarily studied African-American History and Politics, while being part of fraternity: Phi Beta Sigma. Seale and Newton later forged the Black Panther Party, using what they learned from their studies.

Huey P. Newton's family moved to Oakland when he was just 3. unfortunately, Oakland is one of the hotspots for Black Rights violations. Huey grew up in a world of hate and animosity for his race.
